THE CONFESSION
There are a couple signifier's in this film poster that suggest the genre of the film. For example the lighting is low key and dark which suggest the film is a thriller or horror. As the audience we recognize that darkness is usually used in thriller or horror films as it creates the feeling of being scared or worried. Another signifier is the prop of a human figure hanging on a pole, this looks quite sinister with the darkness as its made into a silhouette with the sunrise behind. The poster is shot in a long shot from behind two boys? The question raised is why are the boys out at this time and looking at the body on the pole? this represents maybe a bad life the boys are living or they haven't grown up in a very nice area

The narrative of the film is unclear because there aren't any captions of reviews that may suggest what genre it is or what the film may be about. There aren't any actors mentioned either. Where the narrative is foreshadowed is in the tagline 'can you forgive yourself' this suggests the characters have done something bad that they cant change. The text anchors what might have happened in the film.

The target audience appears to be men and women 16-25, the genre is a thriller or horror so this could appeals to both genders however I think the poster appeals more to men because of the dark lighting and sinister connotations. The colour red of the caption connotes anger and hate its set in front of a black background which also connotes darkness and sinister feeling. The poster would appeal to this audience because of the iconography and mise en scene together they create a sense of danger and unknowing this would appeal to the audience because they have to work things out as the narrative is unclear.

Conventions of short film posters are aspects such as the billing block at the bottom of the poster, in the billing block there is information about who is involved with the film e.g what company the film is owned by etc this can get the film more viewers if they know that they like films by that company. often on short film posters there aren't any actors or actresses included on the poster because short films are usually low budget and can't afford to cast famous actors.

  1. You've done all 4 Neve, which is good. Try to add the things I suggest in comments above.
